Maintaining The Softness Of A Minky Blanket

By Jose Fisher

Blankets are bedding types that are made from a woven cloth in large sizes. These are often used for making people feel more warmth most especially when they are sleeping or just lying down. It traps the heat from a persons body, and thus, giving warm and heat to the body. It also protect the person from cold because of convection.

Traditionally, the blankets were made from wool because a wool is warm while bed sheets are made from silk, cotton, or linen, which are materials that would lessen skin irritations. Nowadays, common materials used for both are the synthetic fibers. Some other uses for blankets include picnics and as a comfort object called as minky blanket for the small children.

Minky is a type of fabric which is often used for making baby blankets, clothing, or accessories. This fabric can be more like a fleece but this is more soft and thick. Fabrics like these that are of high quality helps in preventing the fading of color and decreasing the warmth over time.

Before minky fabrics are used for creating baby blankets, these are used first in creating small stuffed animals, pillows, diaper covers, baby clothes, booties, bibs, burp clothes, and changing pad covers. From the babies comfort, it goes up for teenagers or adults comfort. The term for this is minky couture. A minky couture gives luxurious fabrics to all types of ages.

Aside from using it for warming, it also also gives other people an idea of decorating. It has several different designs, patterns, and style that can give a stylish look to living rooms, bedrooms, or even in the bathrooms. This can also be used as a cover for chairs, dressers, couches, and piano.

A minky is being produced special and as well as durable, so no worries in using washing machines if you wash it. Even when you have washed many times, it would still remain soft like you first hold it. And surely, no one wants to use a lose blanket. And mostly, people have doubts on washing clothes that are thin and soft because it may be torn out after a single wash.

For sure, children most especially toddlers may love playing it through wrapping the fabric around them or they may drag it all over the house. To be able to maintain its shape and as well as the softness, follow these simple steps. First is separating it from other clothing. You should wash it alone or with blankets with the same type. Use laundry detergents and fabric softeners when you wash it. Avoid using bleaches.

Second is removing the stains if there are any. Do this by mixing baby powder with cornstarch, put it on the stain and wash it after leaving it overnight. Dishwashing liquids may also be used. The two methods should be used with cold water when washing.

If the weather is hot, it would be better to hang it when drying to avoid pilling. But if you choose to use a dryer, select low heat setting. But pillings cannot be avoided, so to remove it, you may use a sweater shaver or just a simple disposable razor. Use it in a light pressure to avoid cutting the fabric.
