Factors To Look When Choosing A Teal Sapphire

By Kathleen Walker

If one is looking to buy jewelry, then he or she should know how important knowing the authenticity is because inauthentic jewelry have little to almost no value when appraised. Now, one of the most common and popular jewels that the younger generation would buy is the teal sapphire which is a stone that is bluish green in color. If one would want to buy it, there are a few ways to know how to buy one.

The very first factor that one should take into consideration would be the overall color. One of the best ways to use color for judging would be to check if the deep blue green color would come out when put around a foot under a bright light. Usually, a good light that most jewelers would use would be simple fluorescent lamps or lights.

After one has judged the deep color of the jewel, the next thing to do is to put it under natural sunlight. Depending on the light that the jewel is put under, there would be subtle shades of other colors such as purple if it is a really rare or valuable stone. The different color would be a little faint with the blue green shade more prominent.

The next criteria would be clarity or if one can be able to see any type of inclusions. When appraisers say inclusions, they would usually refer to the shapes of bubbles, the silk looking lines, or crystals. One can use a lens to look closely and see if there are certain things there but it is also possible to see these inclusions without one.

After that, one must carefully examine the symmetry of the shape of the stone. For oval or circular shaped stones, look for how smooth the surface is and to see how perfect the circle shape is. For the stones that have a square or rectangle shape, simply check how symmetrical the corners are.

Another thing that one has to look out for would be the large gaps that can be found in the middle of the jewel. These are known as windows and they usually appear when the cut made by the jeweler was more focused on the weight retention as compared to the beauty. So if there is no gap in the center, then the jewel actually has more value than the one with the window.

Lastly, one has to look at the carat weight of the stone in carats. The ideal weight of the stone should be around one point three or two point five carats. One can get something with a higher carat weight but will obviously have to spend more on that. The ones that have a higher carat weight would cost around five thousand dollars and are rarer.

If one would want to get this jewel, then here are some factors that one has to take into consideration. Of course, one may always get a professional to do the appraisal, but it is best to know the basics. Here are the basic methods that allow one to determine the value of a stone.
